I took this on the Falls Road in the late 1980’s it is showing members of the Nationalist community watch an IRA Republican Easter parade go past. The Police warning on the banner stating that the parade was illegal, fell on deaf ears. Growing up in Belfast we got used to seeing guns and military personnel but looking at this photo 30+years later the police officer with the tip of his machine gun directly at the young boy’s chest, today makes me realise the things we took as ‘normal’ back then was not normal at all, and to me this photo reflects that.
